Spoken Blues, 2018

Haikussemblage of found book spines, vinyl print, recorded audio

120 x 96 inches

at Terminal 7, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)

The inspiration for this book spine collage comes from tanzaku, the Japanese tradition of writing short vertical poem cards on which a single line of poetry was handwritten to record a moment. I selected books that carry references to a particular tint, shade or meaning of the color blue alluding to the tanzaku form.

Accompanying this collage are weekly recorded spoken words from these books that can be heard by scanning the following QR code. An audio link can also be found at https://soundcloud.com/kiogriffith/spoken-blues.
