Kio Griffith is an interdisciplinary artist, curator, educator, and writer whose work moves across visual art, typography, sound, performance, and publishing. His practice is shaped by long-standing engagements with social questions, geopolitics, and migrating cultures, approached not as fixed themes but as lived conditions that unfold through form, material, and time.

Working between Los Angeles and Japan, Griffith develops multimodal works that combine craft and technology—graphic design, sound and video, text, installation, and performance—often treating language and image as sites of translation rather than resolution. Across these projects, attention becomes a method: listening, observing, and allowing meaning to emerge through use, repetition, and context.

His work has been presented internationally in exhibitions, performances, and publications, and has been shown in major contemporary art contexts in Japan and abroad. Alongside his artistic practice, Griffith has co-founded independent publishing platforms and journals dedicated to cultural inquiry and exchange, extending his interest in how ideas circulate, migrate, and transform.

ロサンゼルスと日本を往還する生活を背景に、クラフトとテクノロジーのあいだに生まれる関係性を探究しています。グラフィックデザイン、サウンド、映像、テキスト、インスタレーション、パフォーマンスを横断する実践は、単なるメディアの混合ではなく、意味が移動し翻訳される場としての「言語—イメージ複合体」を検証する試みです。ここでの翻訳とは、ひとつの意味への収束ではなく、使用や反復のなかで生まれる揺らぎを指しています。

作品は国内外の美術館、ギャラリー、パフォーマンススペース、出版など多様な文脈で発表されています。また、インディペンデント出版や編集活動を通じて、思想や表現がどのように移動し再配置されるのかという問いを継続的に探っています。

教育活動では、造形、メディア、文化的責任について、批評的思考と知覚的探究の交差点から学生とともに考察しています。制作は、閉じた体系ではなく、生成と変容を受け入れる開かれたプロセスとして捉えられています。
