oillusion

oillusion is a multimedia installation that brings projected image, printed material, and spatial intervention into a distributed field of perception, where image becomes structure. Visual elements travel across architectural surfaces, breaking apart and reassembling through light, shadow, and reflection.

The work draws on Chuhuangkeng in Miaoli, where Hakka settlers first noticed crude oil seeping into the river in 1817 and where one of Asia’s earliest oil wells was drilled in 1861, a site that passed through Qing, Western, and Japanese colonial interests and still produces today.

The work builds through layered systems of image and information. Archival materials, diagrams, and constructed imagery meet projected environments, and representation and structure begin to overlap.

oillusion unfolds as a navigable space. Viewers move between surfaces, images, and references, their perception continuously redirected along the way.

kugenuma is a multimodal art collaborative of Kio Griffith and Chihiro Minato working across installation, moving image, sound, and text. Grounded in fieldwork, their projects examine sociocultural conditions through site-responsive environments that move between documentation and constructed narrative.
